What is 16 Tech?
16 Tech is an Indianapolis innovation district being built for the continuous flow of people, ideas and activity. It will be 60 acres of creative space – makerspace, flexible working space and research and wet labs, generous greenspace and event space – that will connect thinkers and doers and ignite innovation. With easy access to miles of trails connecting adjacent parks, neighborhoods and cultural districts, 16 Tech will offer a new environment for driving global impact in health, technology, manufacturing and the arts.
Innovation districts are a reflection of a new economy where, according to the Brookings Institution, “innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity and placemaking intersect.” Like many innovation districts, 16 Tech is located in a dense urban core. Unique to 16 Tech is its proximity to more than 65 percent of Central Indiana’s advanced industry sectors and research universities and hospitals.
16 Tech also supports nearby community efforts to attract jobs and create advantages for its residents.
Indianapolis has been recognized by global magazines for its rapid tech industry growth and career opportunites.
More than 15 years ago, Central Indiana leaders identified the most promising advanced industry sectors that were primed to grow the region’s economy. Today, those industries – life sciences, tech and advanced engineering – have largely defined the region’s economic landscape. Hundreds of advanced industry startups as well as spinoffs and global corporations today call Indianapolis home.
